Day 1: Hanoi - Sleep Bus Transfer to Ha Giang (6 hours)

Day 5: Du Gia waterfall - Duong Thuong Valley - Ha Giang - Ha Noi

Day 2: Ha Giang - Bac Sum Slope - Quan Ba - Nam Dam - Lung Tam - Yen Minh

Morning

Your northern adventure begins at Ha Giang City, a quiet gateway town nestled at the foot of towering limestone ridges. After a hearty breakfast at your homestay, at 8:30, you’ll hop into your open-air jeep and set off into the wild - where winding mountain roads quickly replace the flat river valleys of the lowlands.

As you ascend the winding curves of Bac Sum Slope, the scenery transforms dramatically. Verdant hillsides, rice terraces, and distant villages appear in layers below you. Pause here for a scenic break, breathing in crisp mountain air while sipping a drink and taking in your first sweeping panoramic view of the highlands.

Continue your ride to Quan Ba Heaven Gate, a stunning viewpoint that marks the gateway to the Dong Van Karst Plateau. From here, marvel at the unique Twin Mountains (Fairy Bosom Hills), a geological wonder nestled in the green valley below.

Just a short drive away lies Nam Dam Village, home to the Dao ethnic minority whose traditions remain deeply rooted in everyday life. Here, you’ll spend around 2.5 hours and explore traditional clay houses, learn how the villagers maintain their unique customs.

Spend time with local artisans, savor a lunch of home-cooked specialties, and absorb the tranquil rhythm of rural life.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, the journey continues through winding mountain roads, offering breathtaking views of dramatic valleys, limestone peaks, and remote villages. These off-the-beaten-path routes are exclusive to guided trips and reveal hidden landscapes unknown to most travelers.

Stop at Lung Tam Village, where you'll visit a local Hmong family that specializes in traditional hemp weaving and natural dyeing. Gain insight into this intricate handicraft passed down through generations.

We ride onward to Yen Minh, passing the scenic Loop Top viewpoint overlooking a dramatic valley. We arrive in Yen Minh Town in the evening and settle into a warm and welcoming local homestay for the night.

This was honestly one of the best trips I’ve ever done. From the winding slopes of Bac Sum to the peaceful homestay in Du Gia, every day had something new. Riding in the jeep felt safe but still adventurous, and the pace of the tour was just right. I especially enjoyed learning about hemp weaving in Lung Tam – it felt very authentic. Honestly, I loved every day of this trip. The views were amazing, but what stood out to me most was how friendly everyone was. The guide always made sure we were comfortable, and the homestay families were really welcoming.

The jeep rides were fun – bumpy at times, but that’s part of the adventure. My highlight was the Sky Path above the Nho Que River. Standing there and looking down was incredible. If you’re considering this tour, just do it. You won’t regret it.More

The tour was good but the weather was rainy on our second day, which made the roads slippery. Still, the views were incredible when the sky cleared.

3 day Ha Long Bay experience

We organised with the brilliant Mia Nguyen at Best Rate Tours for a 3 day, 2 night tour with Orchid cruises on their nostalgia boat. Mia’s help and organisation was brilliant. Due to the typhoon we had to change plans but she was helpful, friendly and organised throughout. We genuinely could not have asked for more from her. The boat was clean, comfortable and with some absolutely brilliant staff. We are well, plenty of options and lots of food available. The trips we took from the boat were even better than expected. An amazing experience.
