Our journey through Hue is a captivating blend of cultural immersion, natural beauty, and serene wellness experiences. From exploring ancient pagodas and royal tombs to engaging with local artisans in tranquil villages, each moment was thoughtfully curated. The highlight was our visit to Thuy Bieu Village and Tam Giang Lagoon, where we connected deeply with the local way of life. v

Day 1: Arrival in Hue - Welcome Dinner Cruise

Day 3: Green Hue Discovery on Electric Car

Morning

At 8:00, we began our sustainable journey in an eco-friendly electric car. Our first stop, An Hien Garden House, offered a serene riverside retreat with traditional Vietnamese architecture in perfect harmony with nature. Strolling through its wooden halls and lush gardens, we experienced the timeless elegance and balance that capture Hue’s charm.

Continue your journey at Thien Mu Pagoda, often called "The First Ancient Pagoda" of the former capital. With over 400 years of history, this is Hue’s oldest and most iconic religious site.

At 9:30, we arrived at the Perfume River and boarded a traditional dragon boat. The smooth ride over calm waters was peaceful and relaxing. The highlight was joining a local ritual of releasing fish, symbolizing compassion and letting go of burdens in the Vietnamese Buddhist tradition.

At 10:00, we arrived at peaceful Thuy Bieu Village, known for its ancient pomelo orchards and traditional garden houses. Cycling through lush greenery and fragrant pomelos, we felt the slow-paced life and warm welcomes from friendly villagers. We visited multi-generational old houses, soaking in the earthy scents, and enjoyed a memorable conical hat painting session with a local artisan (at your own expense).

At 11:00, we visited a local artist’s house, where we admired beautiful paintings that express a deep love for the homeland. The artist also offered us the chance to try our hand at painting on silk and traditional conical hats. Although it was at our own expense, it was a unique opportunity to unleash our creativity and create a personalized souvenir, making the experience even more memorable.

By 11:30, we enjoyed a macrobiotic lunch - a healthy and balanced meal focusing on local garden-grown ingredients. This meal not only nourished our bodies but also introduced us to a mindful lifestyle centered around wellness. The lunch was served at one of the most renowned garden houses in Luong Quan village, Thuy Bieu, offering an authentic taste of the region’s sustainable living.

At 12:30, we learned how to make pomelo jam, a specialty of Thuy Bieu. The hands-on experience was simple but fascinating, involving peeling, simmering, and stirring with care and patience, which deepened our appreciation for local culinary traditions.

At 13:00, we relaxed under the shade of the grapefruit garden while enjoying afternoon tea. To complete this peaceful moment, we treated ourselves to a 20-minute herbal foot bath infused with fragrant leaves and medicinal herbs, leaving us refreshed and rejuvenated.

Afternoon

At 13:30, our car and guide took us to the Tam Giang Lagoon area, located in Quang Loi, Quang Dien. On the way, we stopped by Ngu My Thanh Mural Village. This small fishing village is decorated with vibrant wall paintings that vividly depict local life - net casting, gear repairing, family activities, and more.

We then boarded a traditional boat to explore Tam Giang Lagoon - the largest lagoon system in Southeast Asia - known for its unspoiled and tranquil beauty. As the sun began to set, the entire water surface turned golden under the evening light, creating a stunning and memorable scene.

We visited a traditional vegetable village, tried local crafts with welcoming villagers, and enjoyed stand-up paddleboarding on the calm lagoon. A simple yet delicious seafood BBQ by the shore perfectly capped the day. Before heading back, we took part in a meaningful tree-planting activity to support environmental restoration.

By 17:30, we returned to Hue city center, wrapping up a memorable day of exploration.

3 day Ha Long Bay experience

We organised with the brilliant Mia Nguyen at Best Rate Tours for a 3 day, 2 night tour with Orchid cruises on their nostalgia boat. Mia’s help and organisation was brilliant. Due to the typhoon we had to change plans but she was helpful, friendly and organised throughout. We genuinely could not have asked for more from her. The boat was clean, comfortable and with some absolutely brilliant staff. We are well, plenty of options and lots of food available. The trips we took from the boat were even better than expected. An amazing experience.
