3 day Ha Long Bay experience
by Tripadvisor

We organised with the brilliant Mia Nguyen at Best Price travel for a 3 day, 2 night tour with Orchid cruises on their nostalgia boat. Mia’s help and organisation was brilliant. Due to the typhoon we had to change plans but she was helpful, friendly and organised throughout. We genuinely could not have asked for more from her. The boat was clean, comfortable and with some absolutely brilliant staff. We are well, plenty of options and lots of food available. The trips we took from the boat were even better than expected. An amazing experience.

3. Tour Guide
3.1. Guide in Hanoi
Really enjoyed the guide for the Ha Long Bay excursion (Man). He interacted well with us and had a
good sense of humor. The other guide was very knowledgeable and he treated us very well.
For the night eating tour, the guide (Tam) was very good and attentive. The only comment that I have
is that it is not possible to eat all the food so maybe it is an idea to ask the guests if they would like
to share portions of food.
3.2. Guide in Hue/ Hoi An
Gave very good information and was very helpful with questions.
3.3. Guide in Ho Chi Minh
The guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the interaction with him.
4. Accommodation
4.1. Hotel in Hanoi
The Minasi Hanoioi Hotel was well situated in the city. The room was very acceptable as was the
breakfast. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
4.2. Hotel in Ho Chi Minh
Queen Ann Hotel – This hotel was below our expectations. The hotel is situated across the road
from a night club and the loud music was played/heard until 2-3am in the morning. This loud music
interrupted our sleep. After the night club had closed then the people who had been in the club
continued to party and talk loudly outside the club. On one of the mornings the talking (noise)
continued to 7am and further interrupted our sleep. The bed and amenities in the room were ok but
the panels and walls of the room were covered in dust and had obviously not been cleaned for a
long time.
4.3. Cruise in Halong
Definitely one of the highlights of the tour. All the staff on the boat were very friendly. The
accommodation and food on the boat was excellent. The time allocated for the cruise was for us
just right.
4.4. Hotel in Hue
The Rosaleen Hotel location, facilities and staff were all ‘top-notch’. Enjoyed being accommodated
at this hotel.
4.5. Hotel in Hoi An

swimming pool available in which to ‘cool-off’. All the amenities and hotel staff were “top-class”....Less

We (including one of my sister-in-law whose legs are weak) find a challenge to climb up a flight of steep stairs up to hotel lobby. The service & standard of cleanliness are not as good as the hotels we stayed in Hanoi, Hoian & Hue. The breakfast room is at the basement which is stuffy & cramp. Poor ventilation at breakfast room
Queen Ann Hotel is not suitable for people who are over 65 years due to the numerous steps.

The staff at our hotel in Hanoi were exceptionally kind, even upgrading our room for us. A big shoutout to our guide for his hospitality and for sharing so much about his country with us.
Our experience in Halong Bay was magical and romantic, with friendly locals and enjoyable kayaking adventures. Hue's old town and forbidden city were fascinating, offering valuable insights into the country's history. Now, in sunny Hoi An, we've been warmly welcomed by the hotel staff, who even made our anniversary extra special. However, the hotel in Saigon, while centrally located, was a bit noisier and the room wasn't as beautiful as the others. Thankfully, they promptly changed our room upon request, and the new one feels like a honeymoon suite. We're sad that our amazing trip is almost over, but the Mekong Delta trip was thrilling, and Ho Chi Minh City has been a real gem to explore.
Thank you for all your assistance and for making our honeymoon truly unforgettable! ...Less

The tour guide, particularly during the Mekong Delta tour, was exceptional, rated 11/10 for their English-speaking skills and knowledge.
The first hotel received a 10/10, with very friendly staff, though lower-level rooms were a bit noisy.
The second hotel received an 8/10 for its beautiful rooms but lacked warmth.
The third hotel, while nicely located and quiet, received a 9/10 due to subpar breakfast and cocktails.
The fourth hotel was a perfect 10, like a dream with everything flawless.
Transfers and transportation were reliable and punctual. A big thank you from myself, my friends, and my wife for the wonderful experience. We're currently experiencing rain and cold weather at home. Thank you so much for putting together the tour for us (6 people). We really really enjoyed ourselves and your country.

Guide in Hanoi: Mr. Tom in Hanoi was very nice, very informative and he could speak quite good English which was so helpful to us. Guide in Hue/ Hoi An: Twee(not sure how to spell her name but this is how she pronounced it) was a very sweet lady. She took us around Hoi An and we all agreed this was our favourite place we stayed at in Vietnam. Our guide in Hue was Hong. We learned a lot of Vietnamese history from him and he did a good job of showing us around. Guide in Ho Chi Minh: Tien was our tour guide in Ho Chi Minh. We spent 2 great days with him. Again, learned a lot of the Vietnamese history and culture and got to see many things.
Hotel in Hanoi: Tirant hotel was in a great location in old quarter Hanoi. We stayed there a total of 3 nights. 2 nights in a row and then returned there for a 3rd night after Halong Bay. Our room (1 out of the 3 booked) had no windows, it was very dark and smelled musty. They were helpful in putting some air fresheners in the room but it was still smelly. However, the night we returned from Halong they gave us a bright beautiful room to make up for the first two nights. But that is why I gave a 9/10 on the accommodations and not a 10/10.
Cruise in Halong: The cruis was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. We loved every minute of it and the peony cruise line was spectacular!
Hotel in Hue/Hoi An: Both hotels in Hue (Eldora Hue)and Hoi An (Silkotel) were great. We were extremely happy with both. Hotel in Ho Chi Minh: The Edenstar is a beautiful hotel in a great location and we really enjoyed our stay there.
Thank you

Accommodation - Hotel in Hanoi: Loved this hotel, especially the staff. They made all of us feel special there, truly the best hotel customer service levels of our tour. Special shoutout to Clarence and Don for their utmost attention that we were always looked after. Good location and we loved walking around the town, good buffet and EXCELLENT coffee! This one is a keeper!
Cruise in Halong Bay: Lovely cruise, thank you for the upgrade! The rooms were beautiful and we felt pampered. My only feedback would be that it would be helpful if they provide a written itinerary as there was some confusion amongst all of us. We had only 18 people on our cruise and the staff to customer ratio was probably the same. Clean rooms, good food and great experience, thank you!
Hotel in Hue: We were upgraded again (thank you) and had an absolutely lovely room. Staff were good, but the buffet items were frequently not as hot as they should be, including the coffee. It was noticed that the coffee burner was off so one of us turned it on and they turned it off again? I realize that Vietnamese like their coffee cold but Western travellers like their coffee hot. Good location and pleasant staff.
Hotel in Hoi An: Perfect location, close enough to walk into town in minutes but far enough to avoid the crowds and noise. Buffet breakfast was good and they were kind enough to leave coffee in various areas so you could easily refill as needed. Room was comfortable and the pool was a welcome retreat.
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh: The hotel was lovely but our room faced a wall (so we just kept the curtains closed). The buffet was good and the rooftop pool was used by us regularly. One night it was closed off completely as there was a private function (wedding) and my only suggestion would be they put up a notification the day prior that it will be closed, as we often looked forward to using it after a hot day out. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly.
As you know two of us returned to Saigon and we opted for a different area (near the Bitexco Tower) for our next hotel. It was a completely different experience and we loved it! It showed us a different experience and it was at that point that we fell in love with Saigon.
We are still travelling but once we are home I will add a Bestrate Travel review and mention you specifically. It really was a spectacular tour and your personal, professional assistance was greatly appreciated. You were quick to respond to any inquiries, available for last minute requests and we felt safe and confident while there under your wing. Thank you again!...Less

It was wonderful and convenient to be in contact with only one person during the trip to handle any difficulties. She also personally came to meet me in Hanoi. Not only were the lodgings excellent, but also the airport transfer and inland flight were beyond my expectations.
I had a great time on the trip because most of my trips included only the tour leader and one or two other persons. All excursions were completed on schedule and competently. ...Less
The underground "cave" was a disappointment. Also the ship didn't sail around to show us the beauty of the bay. The water from the basin taps smell of rust. our room no. 310. or 312. We suspect less activities than usual were organised because of the smaller number of guests.
Hotel in Hue We stayed only one night in Hue. It is well located and also the food is good. The tour guide introduced us to a good local restaurant for dinner. Hotel in Hoi An We stayed three nights in Hoi An. The villas in Silk Resort were good. We had a good lunch on the second day in Hoi An at the hotel.
The trips to My Son and Ba Na hills, and Hoi An Old Town were good, including the Chinese and Japanese bridge. We also saw a bit of Danang on the bus.
. Hotel in Ho Chi Minh While the hotel (Edenwise) in District 1 is in a central location, a little surprised that they still have and gave us rooms with shower in the bath tub area. This is decidedly not safe for some older guests. Although they made the change, this is something they should change. Breakfast is generally good, and the beef in the pho is the best of the lot. Not too chewy. The porters and front desk staff were helpful throughout. A good aerial view of the city from the lounge / restaurant, just as in Hanoi....Less

Hannah was excellent. She was very interesting and her knowledge of the city and history of Vietnam was great 10/10
Hotel in Hanoi: Great location, very friendly staff, great breakfast, very clean. Can be a little noisy but the staff moved us to a room away from the main street when we returned from Halong Bay. On a wet, rainy evening, the staff ordered meals to be delivered to the hotel and then delivered them to our room. We were very grateful and very impressed with the service!
Cruise in Halong: Excellent amenities, great itinerary.
We have a major issue with part of this cruise. During dinner we asked for a glass of wine. The waiter said that it was better/cheaper to buy a bottle of wine rather than order a glass of wine if we were going to have more than 1 glass each (for my husband and I).
We said this was fine.
He bought the bottle and didn’t tell us how much. When we got the bill the next morning, we were charged 7,100,000D for the bottle of wine. This equates to $400 Australian dollars. We would NEVER pay this much for a bottle of wine in Australia. The bottle costs approx $40 in Australia!!
We will never recommend this cruise based on this issue as we see it as a scam to make money by not telling customers how much the bottle actually is and lying about the fact that it is cheaper than buying the wine by the glass.
I emailed the cruise company last week and have not heard anything from them. This leaves a very negative attitude to the cruise and has been made worse by the fact that we haven’t had a response from the company. We will be telling friends about this experience and to be very cautious when choosing this particular cruise company.
Hotel in Hue: Great hotel, excellent location, friendly/helpful staff, very clean, Lovely pool
Hotel in Hoi An: A little removed from the main part of Hoi An, a little outdated and needs some work. Friendly staff although we were charged for $10 for a towel as we spilled a few drops of tea and used the towel to wipe it up. This was very disappointing! Breakfast was very disappointing
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh: Great location, lovely/helpful staff, great breakfast, very clean

The services were perfect! The driver and tour guide waited at the airport even though our flight was delayed until 2am.
Everything was planned smoothly, which helped us to have a stress-free vacation. Nothing to worry about. Everything was arranged: transportation, lodging, numerous meals, and tours.
The only issue is about the accommodation. I can't feel the service of a "5-star" at all, but it showed the current state of the hotel business rather than the tour. For example, the hotel's pool was used for swimming lessons, and our room wasn't in good condition.
Otherwise, I have nothing but good things to say about the whole trip. Sincere thanks to Anna, Mr. Tom - our tour guide in Hanoi, and other guides and drivers we met during our trip for such a lovely time in Vietnam! ...Less

4.2. Hotel in Hoi An – Silk Luxury hotel & Spa: Love this hotel, the largest bed we have ever seen. Quite comfortable to stay in this hotel. We like the 2 for 1 happy hour massage. Enjoyed it very much.
4.3. Cruise in Halong – Mon Cheri Cruise
This cruise in Ha Long Bay is very good. The staff are very nice and friendly.
4.4. Hotel in Ho Chi Minh – Cicilia Hotel
We were told that we would stay in Eden Star in Ho Chi Minh when our tour was booked. However, it was changed to Cicilia without our notice. We checked the web. We were downgraded from 4 stars (Eden Star) to 3 stars. We were not quite happy about it.
The worst is the first room in Cicilia given to us was very small. Okay, we could let it go. However, the air conditioning was so weak. The room was so warm which made us hard to stay. We learnt that it is not the only room. Some other rooms are the same. Therefore, we talked to Tina. She was very kind and helpful. She has asked the hotel
to upgrade us to a Studio room which is much bigger and more comfortable. One problem though. It was Sunday night. Some kind of concert in the park near to the hotel went on, the music was a bit noisy, especially the base. Good thing, the concert did not last until next morning.
4.5. Cruise in Mekong Delta – Mekong Eyes Cruise
Disappointed. The boat is far away from the boat in Ha Long Bay. There was not many activities beside the river float market. There is not much good scenery to see or take pictures. We would not miss anything if we did not go. However, the staff were friendly and helpful though....Less

The tour was well-organized, and all transfers occurred as planned, except for one day when one of the transfers was a bit late. However, we were able to contact Vana via WhatsApp, and she immediately checked and got back to us. On another occasion, we had a problem with a hotel room, and Vana unbeknownst to us called the hotel and organized a change. It was great to have a local travel agent on hand to handle all the unexpected situations, especially when we didn't speak the language.
As it was a small group tour, and there were already four of us, there were only two occasions when another couple joined us. It was great because we then had the flexibility to customize the tour a little bit. The tour guide in Hanoi took us to Railway Street and an egg coffee cafe, which were not on the itinerary. All the tour guides and transfer staff spoke reasonable English, but Thom (Hanoi), Huyen (Hue), and Bach (Ho Chi Minh) were exceptional. All the guides were knowledgeable about the places we visited and the history of their country.
I found this tour relaxing because generally, at each city, we had a half-day tour, and there was free time for resting and our own meandering around. This is where hotel location is critical. We picked the 4-star hotel option, and all were up to standard except for Thanh Binh Riverside Hotel in Hoi An. However, the location of the hotel was really good.
All in all, I highly recommend Bestrate Travel and Vana for organizing such a lovely holiday for us....Less

This is a small group tour and can be customized. I am a lazy traveler, so I actually leave almost everything as Bestrate - Jenny Tran had suggested, with the exception of adding two more optional tours. Depending on the expectations for the tours as well as the addition of the optional excursions, I personally feel that the family still feels relaxed and that we still have private free time for walking or cycling tours of each place we visited. Even our teenagers agreed that the experience was fantastic....Less

Please note: The bus trip guide from Hue to Hoi An was Average. My traveling companion and I felt there was pressure to tip a certain amount after the bus driver was stopped by the local police in Da Nang. It seemed suspicious (perhaps a “scam”) to us as the police never came on the bus yet we were told the driver had to pay a fine since the tourist bus did not have seat belts
Serene hotel Hue - Very Good to Excellent. There was a lot of road and building construction in the neighborhood

Average to Poor. I do not recommend using this hotel in the future. The bathroom in our room (#702) was not fully functional. The bathtub was not flush with the wall, meaning water leaked every time we took a shower....Less

The only thing i wasn't happy was they forgot to pick us up for the airport in Ha Noi. If they had car problem they could have sent a taxi early on before i contacted them. After i contacted them they called a taxi but we were rushed through the crowd at the airport . We were running like chickens with their head cut off. We were butting in front of everyone and even ran through the priority lane. That was not fun.
But overall everything was great. It was a very educational experience we will definitely refer our friends and family. We will come back with our children.

When we were on the beach and kayaking I went up the steps to the ferry for my iPad and then fell down the ladder; the steps were wet and there was no rail to hold on to. As I mentioned my iPad went in the water and did not work after that. In addition to that I have a deep injury on my left buttock. So far I have been to the doctor twice for a hematoma injury that is not improving.
There was no one trained in first aid and no adequate medical supplies available. It was very upsetting and disappointing. Luckily though I did not break anything or hit my head which would have been disastrous.
None of this has anything to do with you or the other people involved on our tour, only the cruise boat, and their lack of preparation for an injury. There were many people on the boat and accidents do happen, but it should be their responsibility to prepare for that possibility. Unfortunately, because I am still dealing with the aftermath, it is still very much on my mind....Less

A few things we didn’t care for.....
One is the train from Hanoi to get to Hue. I know you said it was the nicest train, but to me it was not. The train to SaPa was much much nicer, cleaner and more comfortable.
We were wondering why we took the train from Hanoi to Hue area instead of some other transportation.
The van ride from SaPa back to Hanoi was so scary, but that was not any issue of yours....however, we would not recommend that particular van service.
The Emperor Cruise in Nah Trang was not very good.
It is a beautiful area, but I would not recommend that cruise to anyone.
We loved the Mia Resort!

The tour guide here in HCM City was very sweet, but not very good guide!

The tour guides were also kind and helpful, going above and beyond to solve any problems that arose. For example, Jane even bought me some pins to fix my bag zipper when it wasn't working. We traveled from Hanoi to Saigon, passing through the northern regions near China all the way to the Mekong Delta. The landscapes and places we saw were unforgettable, and the people were friendly and welcoming. The food was also varied and delicious.
I highly recommend Bestrate to any traveler who wants to discover a country through its people and get good value for their money. My sincere thanks and a hug to Vana, who felt more like a friend or relative than a tour operator.

Riding a bicycle 22km in 39 degree heat is not a gentle activity. I found it too strenuous and was shaking during the second half. We did discuss the route with the guide, who was very nice by the way, prior to embarking on the tour and he said he could reduce the ride from 15km to 8km but we were scared that we would miss out on the best bit if we did that (and we would have). Having agreed to 15km I was less than impressed at the final distance of 22km. I think it would be sensible to ascertain the fitness of the individuals and/or offer an alternative of a guided motor scooter tour similar to the one we went on in Hanoi (which was really really good by the way, thank you).
I think it would have been good if you had asked us about checkout extensions – our normal check out time on the last day was 12 noon but our driver was not picking us up until 7.30pm. We had a similar problem with our checkout in Hoi An or Hue. We arranged this ourselves of course, but having meticulously planned everything so well, it is a minor hiccup that you would avoid by asking future guests if they would like you to arrange it.

Ms. Linh Tran helped us plan the ideal vacation. She planned and coordinated everything from transportation to meals. Tung was our tour guide and Chuong was our driver in Hanoi. It was very helpful that Tung is well-versed in the city and has extensive expertise. I can't think of a greater guide. His sense of fun and generosity were greatly enjoyed. The driver was very accommodating, providing us with chilled water and keeping the car cool. We were collected up by Minh and Viet in Hoi An, and they filled us in on the local scene. Luc, our advisor, was fantastic and thrived in every area. We had a great time boating and riding with him; he is clearly a master in his field. Our first day in Saigon was spent with the brilliant Thuy, and the next two days were spent with the equally as brilliant Coang. The time we spent with them was very informative, so we took full advantage of it. We liked how funny it was. Despite the chaos of Saigon's in the peak hours, our driver Hieu was always there to greet us at the front of the car. The whole vacation was perfect! A big thanks to Bestrate!

Throughout our travels in northern, central, and southern Vietnam, each of our supports was an excellent companion and a wealth of information. We joined the ten-day excursion. My one piece of advise would be to not expect much downtime on a ten-day trip because it packs a lot into a short period of time. It requires a lot of walking, but in exchange you get to see a lot of the country in a brief time.
Vu Linh, our local guide in the Hanoi region, deserves our deepest gratitude. Her command of the English language was astounding, and she was also very pleasant to be around.
Vietnam would be a must-visit again for me

Switching to the luxury hotels for a nominal fee was definitely worth it for us because we needed rest time after long days of traveling.
All of the tour guides were excellent - well-informed and eager to please. Everyone had bottled water in their vehicles, which was necessary because of all the walking. The traffic here is insane, yet we felt comfortable with all of our drivers.
Ms. Moon swiftly responded to e-mails during our planning process and then checked in on us occasionally while we were traveling, which was fantastic.
Every pickup and tour guide came on time where we were expected to meet, and there were no concerns with unclear objectives.
Don't miss out on the optional motorcycle tour. This was one of the trip's highlights. We also had a great time spending the night in Halong Bay. Some people spend two nights, but this would have been far too long.
We learned to load up on the provided breakfasts in the mornings. The included lunches were fine, some better than others, but there is usually lots of food, so there was always something to eat among the options.

A little too much of the same thing over and over regards to lunch. Would have been nice to go to a Bahn Mi shop or dumpling shop one day for lunch instead of always having the 8 course tourist menu. Also, we were forced by driver that took us to Hue to go to a seafood restaurant that he wanted to go to despite our reluctance. It was expensive and terrible and despite him being aware that we were unhappy with the food, we not only paid for us, but he made no attempt to pay for his own food so we had to pay for his food also.
Tour in Hue should have been in afternoon instead of morning. Had to check out of our room early and then had no where to go all afternoon. Even if flight had not been delayed, we still would have had a number of hours to spend doing nothing. If tour was in afternoon, we could have relaxed at hotel in a.m., toured and then gone straight to airport.

My wife and I and our two older children had a wonderful time together throughout the Christmas break, which lasted about two weeks. The guides and drivers we had were kind, but as we headed south, communication became more difficult.
That trip to Hanoi was fantastic. If you can, plan your trip during the weekend, when the roads surrounding the lake are closed so families may stroll freely.
Tours in Ninh Binh served as excellent day trip destinations.
The Halong Bay Pelican Cruise was fantastic as well. There is not much to view during the four-hour trip to and from Hanoi.
Maybe the most excellent dinner of my life was at Elegant Restaurant in Hue, which I visited after a flight there. The lunch was part of the package and delicious (we didn't have a single terrible meal the whole trip). We arrived in the fascinating town of Hoi An.
After spending a few days in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh was underwhelming. The trek to and from the Cu Chi Tunnels took more than two hours each way, and there wasn't much to see along the route.
We were able to wind off our journey with some much-needed R&R in Phu Quoc.

Our 4-wheel-drive excursion to Dien Bien, with its beautiful scenery and delicious local cuisine (unlike anything we'd find in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi), and our sail across Ha Long Bay were the highlights of our trip (Tai Chi on the deck in the early morning). Bestrate Travel's tour guides-Mr.Tom and the drivers were excellent in every way. Any hotel we stayed at that had stairs also offered baggage assistance.
The only hitch was on New Year's Eve when we returned to Hanoi from Dien Bien by plane and were greeted with silence. (Later, we discovered that traffic prevented the driver from getting anywhere near the designated pickup location.) We called the given emergency line, and a woman briefed us on how to hail a cab and how much it would cost. The taxi driver phoned our hotel (without being asked) and arranged for hotel employees to meet us outside the nondriving zone to take us back to the hotel since the Old Quater area near our hotel was restricted to automobile traffic.

We REALLY preferred the location, style, room decoration and service at Gondola
Mai Chau Lodge: Was wonderful. The service, our room and the food and cultural tours and entertainment was great. We would highly recommend. The only thing wrong here, is that I had a very disappointing massage. I did put it on my feedback sheet at the hotel. Everything else was wonderful.
The cruise at Halong, was really good, although their idea of a balcony is not quite like we know it, where you can walk out onto it or even have chairs to sit on. The overall cruise is excellent. The food was great too.
We LOVED having a private car transport to the airport from the boat to get our plane to Hue.
Eldora Hotel: WOW, WOW, WOW. This is sheer luxury all the way. Like, 6 stars. I have never, ever stayed in any more luxurious in my life. We would highly recommend the extra spend for this step up in luxury. There were not many people here as it is new, but just to enjoy the luxury while you can is worth it. The tariff will go up here for sure, when they get established.
We had lovely drinks and dinner on their terrace here and we loved their pool.
Loved our little tour of Hue, would just liked to have stayed longer. So much to see and do and not much time. Loved Hue.
Sunboat Hotel: So glad I asked for the room at the front, lovely overlooking the river. I would not have wanted to stay in any other room and would have been disappointed.
There was banging and hammering all day long, from early in the morning till late in day.
The location on the river was very nice for us, even though it is a little out of town, this did not bother us, but it was not as peaceful because of the building. The staff here were fantastic. Huong, at Reception, really made our stay very special. She helped us a lot and we were very grateful.

Thank you so much for organizing the trip and for the help to get to our flight after Halong Bay.
Thanks so much for the flexibility to work around our schedule and still include all the important sites we wanted to see. The main reasons we chose Bestrate were the itinerary and affordability. I rate it a 10. One exception was going all the way to Dong Hoi for the night between Paradise Cave and My Son. I wish we would have stayed closer as this was a few hours each day of extra driving.
The caves were magnificent. The city tours (Hue, Hanoi and particularly Hoi An) were very interesting (8).
The guide for Hoi An and Hue (I'll find his name later) was excellent (9). He was very knowledgable and flexible. The guide in Sapa was good (7), he was very nice but did not adjust to the speed of the hikers. Halong Bay boat guide was very good (8). Funny.

. I would rate all the accommodations 9 or 10, except Bao Nihn Beach resort. It was too remote from the city, the only staff on our trip that we had difficulty communicating with and there was no advantage to be near the beach in the winter. I believe we were the only guests in the whole resort. The staff at Muca Boutique, Serene Palace and Fansipan were all so helpful and friendly. Each of those staffs made extra efforts to help us (at Fansipan to get me a walking stick, at Muca Boutique help with postcards and Serene help to get us to the airport on time). The staff at Bao Nihn was also very helpful (help with a heater for a room that was very cold) but we did struggle to communicate as their English was very limited. Although the accommodations were nice, I would rate Bao Nihn a 6. Maybe when it is not winter, it would be better, but still much too far from town. The room on the boat cruise in Halong Bay was good (8)

Excellent guides in Hanoi and Nha Trang
A. The driver who picked us up to take us to Hanoi airport after the Halong Bay cruise did not behave properly. He arrived late for the pick-up, but more importantly, he made us wait for more than an hour at the midway stopping point when we got out for the toilets and came back to find the car locked. The driver had simply disappeared without telling us how long he would be away.
B. In Hoi An and Hue, the guide should have taken us to decent restaurants for lunch.
C. The pick-up at Saigon airport on the evening of 7th October was rather disappointing, with the driver not knowing the address of the hotel where we were to be taken. When told about this, he did bring us to the right street corner but then simply dropped us there and drove away. Considering how late we were with the arrival, he should have at least waited to help us check-in.

Good Price and EXCELLENT service! We had the trip we were dreaming for!
Signature Hotel in Ho chi Minh was a TERRIBLE hotel ! Do not send other tourist there. It is the worst hotel I have seen in my entire life (noisy, dirty (really dirty), horrible service, old (a lot of thing were broken in our room, etc.). We were so happy when you find a new hotel for us.

we were happy with this except with the train trip from Hanoi-Hue. We didn't have the train tickets, just vouchers.
We were allowed to get into the train after a lot of arguments. It was a stressful experience.

Comment on each destinations:
- The tour in Hanoi was really good and we really enjoyed the bicycle tour! The food on our City Tour was of a very high standard.
- In Sapa, the day tour to the village was really great and we were glad to do the full day tour – we made our own way to Cat Cat village the next day and felt you didn’t need to do a tour to see that one. I will comment that the train was really fine – you didn’t sleep well but it was a great experience. Both restaurants we ate at were really good in Sapa.
- Hoi An was my favourite. Would definitely come back and spend more time as we didn’t even get to the beach! The Me Son ruins were really good and that was a great tour. Banh Mi with Madam Kanh was a very cool inclusion! Other than that it was really lovely just to relax and wander around ourselves. Much we didn’t see so will have to go back!
- Ho Chi Minh was good. We enjoyed the Mekong Delta because it was authentic. I wouldn’t say it was beautiful because of the pollution but – as you got further out it got cleaner. I think it is important for us to see and experience however because this is just the very real side of Ho Chi Minh – the tour guide was really good at explaining it and so we really enjoyed that day.
Comment on accommodation: The accommodation was excellent with the following comments:
- Hanoi Diamond – brilliant. Really good service – incredible meals and breakfast. Spa was great and the room was very clean. No hesitation to stay again. The room to nap and shower after our train trip was an excellent and much needed inclusion. Others we met that didn’t have this had a long wait by the lake to check in to their next hotel and we were glad not to have to do this.
- Halong Bay was brilliant. We got to know the people on our cruise in the bus ride there and made some new friends! Definitely recommend 2 nights – 1 wouldn’t be worth it. The food and service was just excellent and the happy hour was good value for drinks. The Boat was just so beautiful and clean – we felt very spoilt!
- Hue hotel was the fanciest place I have ever stayed! The Imperial City was beautiful and this is another place I would go back to spend more time at. So glad to have seen a little bit. Amazing breakfast.
- I cannot recommend Hoi An Essence more highly – what a stunning Hotel and place. So grateful to have had an extra day there!! We ate at the Hotel which was very good and also at a Restaurant called NU – this was incredible – they are on trip advisor and very good. I can’t recall the other restaurants but they were all very good here and lots of choice. The Spa at the Essence was exceptional.
- Hotel in Sapa was average but clean. The staff made up for this though and were very lovely. We had chosen not to spend on high cost accommodation there so we were happy and expected this

- The accommodation in Ho Chi Minh though I could not recommend and if I had been staying any longer I would have asked you to change. It was not of a good standard compared to other place and there was an overwhelming smell of sewage in the reception lobby. The bed was very hard and the walls thin. The restaurant was also poor. I looked them up on trip advisor and found all of these comments by others. I think if you need to get the budget down and use this hotel – I would just advise travellers what to expect as it seemed a big contrast after everywhere else we had stayed and so didn’t feel as comfortable about Ho Chi Minh.
But, we wish we had 1 or 2 more days in Hue/Da Nang area. For Halong bay cruise, we should have offered to do kayaking.

We were rushed into a grass boat instead.

- The guide in Sapa is very familiar with the H"mong
We also appreciated the guide in Hoi An who eager to show us his beloved city to us and double checked our airline reservation and took us all the way to the check in. Thank you so much.
About Accommodation:
- Gondola Hotel: excellent location
- Panorama Hotel: high floor nice view and hot shower. The roon is the best room in the hotel good view the highest level
- Ancient Resort Hoi An: beautiful garden
- Sai Gon Hotel continental was the best place in the city, room so huge ,each room has clearly martked the history I stay in room 307 which is the author: the Perfect Spy" stayed there when he wrote this book, It reflected the old Saigon once a upon of time
About Halong bay cruise - Dragon Legend Cruise:
love the guide, new boat is new, room is huge and luxury, of course the on board service is amazing, maybe you can suggest to have 3 days 2 nights with extra money as options
In general: Excellent! Don't let the Name fool you, think bestrate will give you less service, It is the Bestrate and the Bestservice!

This is just suggestions:
1, The kayaking in Halong bay is bit danger, I wish there is a guide is leading us. Our boat capsized and we fell into the bay and he whistle for help since we were the last one to return. Thank goodness someone heard and pull us to the shore and I lost the I phone(my fault).
2, It will be better to tell the driver from Halong bay to Hanoi airport to drop the guests in terminal E the domestic side, the driver dropped us in the international gate but we don't know thought all in one line.so we wasted 30 mins to line in the wrong place.
3, The pick up at Saigon the driver should have a hotel name and local guide contact information for the guests just arrived if the guide is not there and the driver cant speak English.
4, CuChi Tunnel guide did not show much interest in us the whole time he was looking and talking to the cute girls and I cant agree with his attitude, I still politely tipped him but he is far apart from other guides we met. My husband agreed with me.

Train arrived to Sa Pa few hours later than it planned, but adjustments to itinerary was done promptly and our Sa Pa experience have not been affected. In fact it was much better this way as now looking back, we believe it would be too hard to make 14 km in one day (the road up and down).
The guide in Hue and Hoi An was very nice and knowledgeable, but we would suggest to improve his English.

Silverland Hotel in HCMC was a litle bit disappointment.
The only negative aspect was train - very noisy and shaky, it was too hard to sleep on it.

- Food/ Drink: would have liked to experience street food, and more traditional meals. The meals included in the tours felt a little "western" and would have liked something more traditional. Maybe offer two options where one could be very traditional and the other a little more western for people who would prefer it... and probably allow for more than just 1 hour for lunch. After having hours of "touring" it would be nice to be able to relax and enjoy lunch for a little longer...
- Guide: Most of our guides were brilliant!! Some more experienced than others... Quon (Hanoi) and Qow (Hue) were absolutely fantastic. Exceptionally well read and knowledgeable of the places we visited. All were very helpful friendly and did their best to facilitate any of our needs.
- Activities: our favourite activity was trecking in Sapa and the junk cruise in HAlong Bay. We would have also liked to include some more night tours, or something that allowed us to experience more of Vietnam's current lifestyle and culture rather than just the artifacts...
- Accommodation: All our accommodation was beautiful clean and had all the facilities we required. Our favourite accommodation was the Gondola - the staff were amazing, super friendly and very helpful and honest. giving us plenty of advice on where to go and what to do...
The Junk in Halong bay was AMAZING!!!! more than what we expected... the quality of staff, fitting and furnishings were 5 star hotel quality and our personal butler was so funny and friendly... Mountain View in Sapa accommodation was brilliant - again very friendly and they were nice enough to upgrade us to a bigger and better room - although, probably a little bugger than we needed :) it was great all the same!
WE also had no problems with the train, as we heard that they could be a little hard to sleep on. We were fine.... i think booking the VIP cabin, was a great idea. kept us feeling comfortable and safe.
